December 13th, 2025: Yoga Teacher Trainings in Rishikesh, India.

I’m at Mumbai airport awaiting my very long flight(s) back to Mexico. I have just completed two Yoga Teacher Trainings in the magical Himalayan town of Rishikesh, India. This is supposedly the birthplace of Yoga, or at least nowadays the Yoga Capital of the World. Here you can find dozens of Ashrams, Courses, Classes and Experiences ranging from drop-in classes to full-fledge 500 hours certifications. It’s imperative to make a thorough conscious decision on which school or teacher to choose from the wide menu available. It’s worth spending time reading reviews online, talking to people that have been here or simply come earlier and try several classes until you find what’s the right fit for you. There are weekly Kirtan events specially in the Tapovan area, Sound Healing practices, Ayurveda centers, Vedic astrology masters, Yoga bookstores, and an abudant flow of international practitioners seeking to learn and experience this unique town.

I have chosen Kundalini as one of my new practices. It’s based fully on Hatha Yoga, including Pranayama techniques, Mantra chanting, Mudra and Bandhas, all embedded in the practice of Kriyas. This is different to the previous educations I had based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa lineage. Hatha Yoga is older and its lineage comes from this region of India. The focus is to awaken, harness and align the internal Prana (theoretically dormant at the base of the spine, this energy is called Kundalini), and ensure it flows freely through Nadis and Chakras, aiming for a higher consciousness and healthier body-mind, according to the scriptures.

On the other hand, I have also pursued a certification on Nada Yoga or nowadays called Sound Healing. Nada Yoga is the science of sound and vibration, and it’s a practice that aims to heal and regulate people’s nervous systems through the use of specific instruments that create sound and vibration at certain frequencies that drive the body and mind to a natural relaxed state. The main tool to use are Tibetan Singing bowls, a set of copper-based bowls tuned at different “sound notes” which are then used in combination to create harmonic sequences that do the job described above. When more instruments are used in a session, such as shamanic drums, flute, Tanpura, Koshi bells, shells, Didgeridoo, rain stick, oceanic drum, etc., the experience is called Sound Journey.

Moreover, the experience of being just next to the cleanest and bluest version of the Ganges river, considered a Goddess in Hindu philosophy (Maa Ganga) it’s just a privilege, There are daily after-sunset ceremonies at its banks called Ganga Aarti, and they usually become a fun and devotional social event. All in all, despite the criticism that Rishikesh might be a so called “Yoga Disneyland” due to the modern heavy marketing to sell Yoga certifications, this place is unique and if your intentions as a practitioner are honest, you’ll find the greatest reward by spending your energy and time here. Om Namah Shivaya!

August 10th, 2023: Akasha Retreat at Transylvania, Romania.

I just came back from teaching more than 50 Yoga classes at Akasha Retreat in the gorgeous green hills of Pestera, in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. I was invited to be a guest teacher for a period of 5 weeks, delivering a daily morning Power Vinyasa session and an evening Yin Yoga session. Had the privilege to meet so many cool and engaged practitioners, mainly from Romania, but also few others from France, Spain, Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, Canada. Being away in such a location is an introspective opportunity as a Yoga teacher, where I am able to focus on only-Yoga-related activities (whereas when I’m home, daily life activities take a good chunk of my daily time and energy). I managed to polish my Yin Yoga sequences, which is a style I seldom teach back in Mexico. Also had the time to finalize my AWAKE Program content, which will be soon released to address the same need I had when I was a corporate IT professional: reconnect with my body, reach out my inner Self, tap into my personal power, and find my life purpose… all through the guidance of an integral Sadhana practice. Namasté!

June 11th, 2023: Olito Yoga studio in Oaxaca turns 1 year!

Today Olito Yoga studio is one year of age 🙂 The first time I saw this “living warehouse” on early 2022, I have instantly pictured a Yoga shala and community classes happening there. And here we are, after more than 75 classes delivered, welcomed more than 200 attendances coming from 22 different countries – including Latvia and Ethiopia- and couple months off in Guatemala, Japan, Thailand. With as many shala-moppings, video-making-and-editing, social media and plants nurturing year-round!

More importantly, I have confirmed teaching Yoga is my true path, and having your own Yoga studio is the ultimate self-discipline and healing tool… at the service of others. Thank you everyone who came to practice and supported creating a community… Namasté!

Happy bday to the Shala! Oaxaca de Juárez, México.

May 28th, 2023: We went hiking to the ancient Zapotec ruins of Yagul!

Yagul is an archaeological site 40 minutes drive East of Oaxaca City. The site was declared one of the country’s four Natural Monuments on 1998. Around 500-700 AD, many ceremonial and residential structures were built at the site. Vestiges of human habitation in the area, namely cliff paintings date to at least 3000 BC! I went with my friend Jacob and Fernanda, which was on her way to Mitla. Oaxaca is so gifted on ancient cultures on display either on the landscape, markets, towns, eateries, etc. Coming to these places always reminds me of how our ancestors were more connected to the cosmos, and how much our current contemporary version needs it, hence Yoga… Namasté!

January 22nd, 2023: Rooftop class at Co-Living 404 in Oaxaca, México.

Winters in Oaxaca are very sunny, and sitting at an altitude of 1600 meters high, the sunlight particularly blazes a little harder on your skin. Anyways, I was invited to teach this rooftop Vinyasa class after a cacao ceremony led by my Latvian friend Zane, at Co-404 Co-living space. I found the concept of the hostel very inspiring, as it’s intended to be a community of digital nomads and artists, with weekly dinners and and daily Yoga, check them out when you visit Oaxaca de Juárez… Namasté!

October 2nd, 2022: Rocket Yoga Teacher Training Certification at Querétaro, México.

Rocket Yoga is a dynamic and invigorating style of yoga asana practice that combines traditional Ashtanga with elements of creative Vinyasa flow. Rocket Yoga is divided into three different sequences based on the series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. So here I am just certified to teach Rocket: the practice is quite challenging, requires you to be already certified 200hrs on Vinyasa or Hatha yoga preferably, it involves many arm balances, inversions and deep torsions. We had two daily practices and labs in-between. Thankful to my great teacher Mark Hanuman, fully recommend getting certified with him. I will incorporate a weekly Rocket Yoga class at Olito Yoga from now on… Namasté!
